Katie Stevens Eliminated

Some very sad news for those expecting to see Connecticut’s own Katie Stevens move on in season 9 of American Idol, she was one of the two contestants voted off last night due to a low number of votes. That’s got to be a big punch in the stomach if not a slap in the face to Connecticut. But did her rendition of Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” kill her chances to advance another round?

Hard to believe it, but Katie is only 17.

“Pants on the Ground” Video

Welcome to February, all. It is a short month, so let’s not spend a minute of it lollygagging.

Love it or hate it, the “Pants on the Ground” video is becoming a hit online. It all started when “General” Larry Platt of Georgia walked into the American Idol audition session to perform a song. Little did Simon Cowell and company know, the song Platt performed is called “Pants on the Ground,” and the sensation was born!

Simon Says ‘Toodle-oo’

Simon haters and William Hung fans rejoice! Longtime American Idol judge Simon Cowell announced earlier this week that he’ll be leaving the popular Fox talent show at the end of the season. That’s the good news. The bad news is he’ll be bringing the popular U.K. talent show, The X Factor, another one of his creations, across the pond in the fall of 2011. The show will likely air on the Fox network.

The question on everyone’s mind is: what will become of Idol without Simon Cowell? The “nice” judge Paula Abdul left the talent show in August and Ellen DeGeneres, who also has a daytime talk show, will take Abdul’s spot as an Idol judge. “I am going to be very, very sad to see him go, because I think he’s made the show what it is,” DeGeneres said.

Who is NOT gonna miss Simon? William Hung, known for providing a tone-deaf version of “She Bangs” by Ricky Martin (don’t get mad–you know you liked that song), saw his album hit the Top 40 list. Who’s got the last laugh now?! And what about the others on the receiving end of Simon’s jabs? Sure, he can dish it out, but can he take it!?? They were told their singing was “horrible” or “ghastly.” Not apt to constructive, er…DESTRUCTIVE criticism, one Idol hopeful lashed out on Simon. I mean, she was p-i-s-s-e-d.

There has been no word on who will replace Simon after he leaves at the end of this season.
